Friday, May 13

The First Graders are taking a field trip to the Laurentian Environmental Center in Britt, MN for a Lake Ecology class.  During part of this class students will be introduced  to the ecosystem of a lake, then taken out to Arrowhead Lake where they will dig in the mud on the lake shore looking for aquatic insects.  We’ll look at the insects to identify them and share a little about their unique characteristics and use the identification to help understand if the lake is a healthy place.

We will be leaving school at 8:00 sharp by bus and returning around 2:45.  Students and volunteers need to bring their backpacks with a lunch and beverage.  Dress to be outside all day and for any weather.  It may be chilly in the morning, so dressing in layers is suggested, along with wearing tall rubber boots to help ensure dry feet.   Extra socks and a pair of shoes may be helpful too.

Transportation funding for this field trip is provided by our local PTO.    Students are requested to provide the admission fee of $15.00.   Please make checks payable to Ely PTO and return with permission slip. Scholarships are available from PTO if needed.

We will need several volunteers to make this a fun and successful day. Volunteers get in free!  Please indicate below if you are available.  Thank you!

First Grade Teachers,
Susan Ferguson, Tiffany Davis, and Kelly Noble
